Sarah is a theologian and ethicist who teaches at a small college somewhere in the South. She lives with her husband, Stephen, also a theologian, and their three sons. She got into academic theology so that she could get paid to read and think about stuff, but she found that she kind of likes teaching students, too.
Isaac is a high schooler, swimmer, reader, and cultural critic extraordinaire. He has managed thus far not to need therapy for 1) having spent 13 years of his life "doing" graduate school with both his parents, 2) being the son of two pastors, 3) being the son of two academics, or 4) moving six times in his sixteen years of life. Books help.
Theo is a second-grader and all-around great guy. His name means "friend of God," and he would like to be your friend, too. He writes book reviews when his mother makes him, but he would rather tell you about them by video.
Blogger automatically tags each post with the author's name; you can tell who is writing a post by looking at the name at the bottom of each post. (Theo mostly posts videos. If you see a handsome seven-year-old talking to you, it's Theo.) But you can also usually figure it out from context.
What We Do Here:
This is a personal blog, created primarily for the purpose of keeping our far-flung friends and family updated on our lives. We would prefer to keep our last name and current places of work and residence off this blog; if you accidentally mention this or other too-personal-for-us information in your comments, we may delete them for privacy's sake.
Sarah has a professional blog and a twitter account, as well. If you know her full name, they're not too hard to find. She will not be linking to them here.
It is also, to some extent, a book blog. We will post thoughts about stuff we read. If there's a book you'd particularly like us to read and reflect on, feel free to send us a copy. We love free books. (Contact information available soon.) If it's your own work, please put on your grown-up panties before reading our reflections; we love free books, but not enough to lie about their strengths or weaknesses in order to get more.
If you send something for us to read, feel free to specify whose reflections you're most interested in reading. Isaac is particularly fond of sci-fi. Sarah is game for anything, although she's quick to stop reading if it isn't worth her time. Theo will read anything age-appropriate, after careful previewing by his parental units. (If you want Sarah's informed opinion on a scholarly work, please contact her through professional channels. This will be easier if you know her name.)
We're fans of impassioned debate. Feel free to leave controversial (and even contentious) comments; don't be shocked if we use reasoned argumentation (and even criticism) in response. We're not fans of excessive profanity (one of us is a second-grader, after all) or hate speech. We'll probably delete insulting, vulgar, rude, or otherwise inappropriate comments. (We'll also delete comments complaining about our having deleted one of your comments, because one of us is a mother, and she Will Not Put Up With That Shit.) We also believe that all of the law and the philosophers can be summed up in this: that you do not embarrass your mother. So we'll probably delete things that would embarrass our mothers.

This website generates a minuscule amount of ad revenue through Google Ads and Amazon Affiliate links (minuscule in this context means "less than the cost of running it"). Its contributors are unaware of any financial incentive to distort the opinions reflected here. While we will try to make relevant financial disclosures in individual posts (book reviews that have been solicited through the gift of a free book, e.g.), we may forget. Because, you know, minuscule. Please assume all links to Amazon are affiliate links. If any other affiliate programs are established, they will be disclosed on this page, as well as in the first post in which they are used.
The authors are about the business of truth-telling, which is not always the same as strict facticity. Humorous posts may contain factual distortions, exaggerations, and inaccuracies. That's the essence of humor. Stories about people who 1) go unnamed or are given clearly fictitious names, 2) are not public figures, or 3) have not consented to have their stories told here may include fictitious or inaccurate biographical data in order to protect their privacy. In all other cases, the authors make every effort to be both truthful and factual in their representations. They are not investigative journalists, police detectives, historians, or psychics, however, and may sometimes inadvertently err in their pronouncements.
The owners of this website will make every effort to remove posts, images, or comments that infringe upon your rights, disclose unwanted identifying information, or constitute threatening or harassing speech. Please contact them if there is a post, image, or comment that needs their attention. The owners of this website do not believe you have a right not to be told that you're wrong about something, not to know that there are people who disagree with you, or to be protected from having your personal beliefs and practices scrutinized. So don't whine.
